Question the Labels

Discover how culture shapes the way we define what is “normal." The course begins by examining how many familiar ideas about neurodivergence developed within a Western cultural framework. You’ll explore how traits such as intense focus, sensitivity, literal thinking, difficulty with conventional routines, and a preference for solitude can take on very different meanings depending on the values of the society observing them.

Reframe Difference Through Purpose

Move from “What is wrong?” to “What might this person be here to contribute?" Drawing from the instructor’s study of Dogon traditions, the course introduces a perspective in which human differences are considered in relation to nature, purpose, balance, and the needs of the community.

Create a Life That Works With You

Through personal examples and lessons inspired by Indigenous ways of living, you’ll explore ideas such as simplifying your environment, creating supportive routines, using external cues for time and focus, understanding your sensitivities, recognizing your strengths and limitations, and leaning on community instead of expecting yourself to function independently in every area.

About the course

You’ll examine the contrast between Western and Indigenous frameworks, explore the relationship between neurodivergent traits and concepts such as nature, community, balance, and purpose, and practice reframing familiar characteristics from a different point of view. The course then brings those ideas into everyday life, exploring practical approaches to environment, simplicity, routines, time, sensitivity, strengths, limitations, and community. This course is for neurodivergent adults, parents, family members, caregivers, and anyone curious about perspectives on neurodivergence beyond the conventional Western framework.
